The Vine United Methodist Church – Henry, Nebraska
Worship service is on Sundays at 9:00 a.m.
In the heart of a sleepy little town, nestled amidst rolling hills and whispering cornfields, stands a modest Methodist church that seems to have been plucked straight from the pages of a Mark Twain novel. With its weathered white clapboard exterior and a steeple that reaches sky high, this charming house of worship exudes a timeless charm that harkens back to simpler days.
As you step through the creaking wooden doors, you’re greeted by the warm embrace of a community that knows the true meaning of hospitality. The pews, polished by generations of faithful congregants, offer a comfortable seat as you settle in for a Sunday service that feels like a heartfelt conversation among friends. And once inside you will be astonished by the gorgeous stained glass windows which have been donated to honor members of the congregation.
You will notice the presence of the pianos and organs which demonstrate the talent of past and present musicians who have shared their gifts of music for church services, funerals and weddings. Each Sunday we are blessed with the talented Tom Yonquist with his guitar and beautiful voice to compliment the sermon.
And the preacher, with a twinkle in his eye and a voice as soothing as a summer breeze, delivers sermons that blend timeless biblical wisdom with a touch of down-home humor.
But it’s not just the quaint atmosphere. It’s the people who call it home. The congregation, a tight-knit family of farmers and townsfolk, welcomes newcomers with open arms and genuine smiles. They embody the spirit of the Old West, with their kindness, authenticity, and a willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
After the service, the church’s fellowship hall comes alive with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and homemade treats.
Laughter and lively conversations fill the air as folks gather to share stories, swap recipes, and offer a listening ear to those seeking solace or celebration. In this close-knit community, everyone is embraced as a cherished member of the family.
So, if you find yourself in rural America, don’t miss the opportunity to experience the magic of this friendly and welcoming Methodist church.
Everyone is welcome here.
If you are visiting for the first time, we will not embarrass you by having you stand up, or ask you to give money. We know that many people want to check out the church and “be anonymous,” and that’s fine with us! So come in, enjoy the refreshing atmosphere, and see if this is the church for you. Check out these FAQs to find more information about what you can expect on your first visit.
Where do I go when I get there?
Come on in the main entrance. When you walk in, come on in to the sanctuary and find a seat. After the service, we invite you to stay for a cup of coffee and a treat. We would love to say hello, but there is no obligation to do anything, we are just glad you are here!
What should I wear?
At The Vine United Methodist Church, we want you to come as you are. Jeans and a t-shirt are totally normal. If you like to dress up more, that’s awesome too!
What is a typical service like?
A typical worship service is around 60 minutes long. We’ll start with music from the pianist and congregational singing, then the pastor will share a few announcements. Next, one of our pastors will share the message. Most services wrap up with a final song. You’re invited to stick around afterwards downstairs to grab a cup of coffee or some treats, or head out whenever you’d like. Also, we offer Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. All are welcome as this is The Lord's table and we are merely the stewards.
What do I do with my kids?
Kids and families are a huge part of The Vine United Methodist Church. That’s why we want to make sure your kids have access to learning about Jesus every Sunday! Kids are welcome!
